EMPLOYMENT

Science Instructor, Pennfield High School (2003-Present) Responsibilites Include:  Teaching Biology, Computer Applications 1 and 2, German 2, Earth Science, and Physical Science.  Creating, Implementing, and Teaching Science Curriculum for Middle School and High School; Aligning curriculum to State Standards; Creating and Implementing Career Preparation Initiatives for Middle School and High School; Establishing Student Course Guidelines for Administration and Students in alignment with Michigan Career Pathways; Coordinating Student Scholarships and College Visits.

Laboratory Assistant, Kellogg Company, Battle Creek, MI  (1985-1990)  Internships and Seasonal Employment. Responsibilities included:  Calibrating and running assays on HPLCs; Comparing and contrasting statistics generated from assays for quality control. 

ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

Assistant to the President, Albion College, Albion, MI (1998-1999) Full-time Staff.  Responsibilities included:  Overseeing projects of the President; Managing office activities related to students, staff, faculty, alumni, trustees, and community relations with the President.  Representing Albion College at such functions as GLCA meetings.

Community Corrections Manager, Calhoun County, Marshall, MI  (1992-1995) . Full-time Staff, Grant-funded. Responsibilities included:  Direct and manage all aspects of alternative placement programs, including:  Grant writing for funding of programs; monthly and weekly reporting; annual reports and grant request; fiscal year budgeting; conference coordinating; establishing policy and procedures; interagency communication; media relations; statistical analysis; computer programming; personnel services.

Education 359  “Teaching for Understanding in a Diverse World:  Inquiry and Reflection into the Pedagogy of the Sciences”  1 credit  Develops the conceptual tools necessary for future secondary teachers of science and/or mathematics to teach in multiple contexts. Develops dispositions and skills that promote a learning community committed to multiculturalism, equity and social justice. The theory- practice connection is stressed so that thoughtful lesson plans and a course design are crafted. Collaborative team field experiences are integrated into the course. 

Education 230  “Science Pedagogy:  Developing Effective Schools and Effective Instruction”  1 credit   Concentrates on linking theory and practice within college and elementary classrooms. Education course concepts are integrated with science core concepts as an example of effective instruction and curriculum building in elementary classrooms.  Field Placement Lab included.

Education 412  “Directed Study  1/2 or 1 credit  Focus on Technology and Curriculum Integration through “Teach for Tomorrow” and creating framework for digital portfolios.
